Color Loss to Oxide of nitrogen and sulfur
Unlike sunlight fading does not have a Federal or industry standard, but most
experts would agree that AATCC 164 COLORFASTNESS (OXIDES OF NITROGEN) for three cycles,
(60 hours) with a rating over four is acceptable.

| The original color of this carpet was rose. Oxides of nitrogen moved
along the edges of walls and doorways washing out the color. This picture is linked to the
report it came from. To determine this kind of fading, run AATCC 164-1987 test,
Colorfastness to Oxides of Nitrogen in the Atmosphere Under High Humilities. The results
of this test after two cycles should be '4' or over so as not to be considered a
manufacturing defect. Some mills will argue that '3' and above is passing. There is no
official standard for this test. See a report
where three cycles of this test were declared acceptable. Just Click |
