Color Loss to Sun Light Research
Sun light fading will occur generally on the west or
southwest side of a structure or near large windows. Whether or not it can be called an
acceptable defect depends upon testing on nylon at an independent testing laboratory ;
olefin fading can sometimes be done with field testing and a AATCC GRAY SCALE CARD.

| This photo is of a remnant used as a walk-off-mat in front of
a sliding-glass-door. It has been laid next to a hallway carpet which has not been exposed
to sunlight. Note the contrast. After testing at an independent testing laboratory this carpet registered 3
on AATCC 16E2. According
to the FEDERAL HOUSING AUTHORITY standard for carpet, UM 44C and UM 44D
in Table 1 Minimum Carpet Requirements and Test Methods for Colorfastness to light
(xenon arc) Gray Scale rating), the Minimum Value, is 4 (after 40 AATCC
fading units). |

| Shown above is where color loss has taken place between
the vertical blinds and the sliding-glass-door. |
 |
| The fading above has taken place on olefin. The warranty from Genesis
says that if the color loss is more than one unit, (less than 4 on the AATCC GRAY SCALE
card), then replacement under warranty is possible. |
